DevOps Engineer – Network Monitoring

Our client, Swisscom, is a leading telecommunications and IT company serving millions of customers across Switzerland and Europe. Currently, they are expanding their DevOps team in Riga and are seeking engineers to help develop a scalable monitoring platform that is capable of evolving with our services and customers. You will take part in releasing new platform versions, ensuring continuous improvement of monitoring capabilities, and work in a multidisciplinary DevOps team following SAFe principles. The team/project: 

The client provides a range of innovative networking solutions to their B2B customers, leveraging network virtualization to deliver services such as EC (swisscom.ch/ec) and BNS (swisscom.ch/bns) and many more. These services rely on thousands of virtual routers and firewalls running on our internal IaaS clouds, generating over 1 million metrics every 5 minutes. To effectively manage and analyze this vast amount of data, we aim to utilize big data approaches to aggregate, correlate, and identify anomalies. As a key member of our team, you will play a crucial role in both leading and supporting the development and implementation of monitoring business logic, ensuring the smooth operation of our systems and enabling efficient detection of customer service issues.

 

Job requirements:

  • CI/CD experience (Git, Jenkins and preferably Gitlab Pipelines)
  • Solid automation know-how (Ansible or other IaaC/CaaC tools)
  • Solid knowledge of containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, Helm)
  • Experience with coding & scripting (Python, Bash)
  • Effective communication skills in English
  • Curious, open mindset with strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Team player who is eager to learn and open to share knowledge

 

Nice-to-have:

  • Familiarity of monitoring tools (Zabbix, Grafana, Prometheus)
  • Understanding of network fundamentals (Netconf, SNMP, routing protocols, switching, IP addressing)
  • Experience with Kafka or other message brokers
  • Experience in programming streaming pipelines and real-time data processing (Apache Flink, Spark)
